Seeing the world is a privilege that many people crave but much fewer get to experience. Those who have done it claim that it changed their lives, and opened their eyes to what the rest of the world has to offer.

And typically, these people have followed a similar route. They have packed their bags and jumped on a plane that crossed continents and landed in some unfamiliar and sometimes unusual land, dragged their luggage from hostel to hostel and then, after a month or so, have returned home.

But while this is the most popular way to travel the world, it is by no means the only way. With all the opportunities available nowadays, everyone can find something that will allow them to see the world.

AHOY, SAILOR

If you have read about those people who have sailed across the globe with nothing but buoyancy and sails, then perhaps renting or buying (if you’ve got the cash) a boat will scratch that nautical itch.

You don’t even know how to sail, as many captains will take you on board as help and introduce you the wonders of the seven seas. Furthermore, places like Marine Electrical which can help you out with any mechanical problems you encounter during your voyage.

WHAT’S NEXT, TEACHER?

One problem that many people encounter when travelling is that they will inevitably run out of money. Undertaking a TEFL or CELTA certification before jetting off on your adventure will give you the opportunity to travel anywhere in the world, and keep the bank account full at the same time.

Countries such as Thailand, China, Vietnam, and the UAE offer qualified teachers a substantial stipend for their skills in teaching English. If you are still unsure about what to do with your life, teaching abroad is an excellent way of finding yourself. You might just decide to be a teacher and inspire the future when it is all said and done.

I VOLUNTEER AS…

Well, anything. You can research into organisations and charities all over the world and volunteer to work alongside them in trying to make the world a better place. This includes organisations such as the Peace Corps, WWOOF, or at a homestay.

Furthermore, there are programs that bring hundreds of westerners to Eastern Europe, Africa, and parts of Asia every year to build schools in remote villages with supplies and equipment that can provide a better quality of life for those there. Volunteering is not merely about fulfilling some noble cause but also learning from those who have lived an entirely different life to you.

AWAY YOU GO

While you might look at your bank account and believe that you don’t and will never have enough money to travel, remember that there are always other possibilities. The people who have explored alternative avenues, instead of following the crowd, have found their experiences to not only be unique, but just as, and perhaps more, rewarding than lugging a backpack around with you for ninety days at a time.

Finding your best way to travel is what is essential. Do it your way, and enjoy the wonders that the world has to offer.
