Birchbox: December Review

Birchbox: December Review

I decided to give BirchBox another try because it was buy a subscription, get a second box for free so two boxes for the price of $10? Why not. And their boxes are cute, I’ll admit.

Shipping took about a week after I got the email that it shipped. My tracking number said it was supposed to be delivered by the 27th but I received it by the 22nd, so that was good!

I would give this box a review of 6/10, only because I received two of the same products I did last month.

I also received this cute mirror. It was part of the regular birchbox samples. It’s really tiny, but I think it’s cute.

I really liked the color of the surprise box. Pink is my favorite color. When I ripped it open, there was another box but colorful and bright. It was completely different from the regular monthly boxes, but nonetheless, I was in love. (I think I only like Birchbox for the packaging.)

The samples I received in this surprise box are dr. brandt PoreDermabrasion, Milk Makeup Sunshine Oil, Elizabeth Mott It’s So Big Volumizing Mascara, Klorane Smoothing and Relaxing Patches with Soothing Cornflower, Living proof No Frizz Nourishing Styling Cream, and their No Frizz Shampoo and Conditioner.

These were all new products for me, all new brands to me.

I tried the Living proof No Frizz Shampoo and Conditioner. It wasn’t a lot since it was a sample but it was enough for my thick long hair. Both the Shampoo and Conditioner smell like oranges. (Or I think it’s oranges. My boyfriend said it smelled fruity but he couldn’t pin point which fruit.) I normally don’t like anything scented but I really like this scent. It’s probably because I love oranges, but nonetheless, it smelled good. It was easy to apply and I didn’t have a hard time washing the product off. After I showered and air dried my hair, my hair was soft but it did NOT stop the frizz. I still had frizzy hair when I was in my house and outside. I’m convinced that no hair product will ever work on my hair. It made my hair soft at the top of my head but it did not take the frizziness away, which was a disappointed because it says No Frizz. My hair was static-y as well, but a soft static-y. I don’t know if I was supposed to maintain my hair with these products and use it every single day but I only had enough for one wash. I will buy the full product and make a judgment later but for now, it didn’t do anything to my hair but make it soft.

I used the Klorane Smoothing and Relaxing Patches with Soothing Cornflower next. It’s supposed to help with my under eyes whether it’s heavy eye bags or dark circles. This was my first time using an under eye treatment so I at first didn’t know what to do until my sister saw me struggling and said I was putting it on wrong. I didn’t feel uncomfortable wearing it but it didn’t exactly stick to my face. If I moved, I felt the patches coming off so I had to continuously tap on them to stick. After 20 minutes, I took it off and it made my eyes softer. But the next day, I realized the eye patches made me break out. A bump appeared on my under eyes and it was because of these eye patches. I was disappointed because I thought it was going to work and help reduce dark eye circle but instead, it made me break out. I mean, one bump isn’t breaking out but I didn’t want to risk it. I don’t plan on buying another one of these products. I’m open to other eye patches but not this one.

Next, I used the dr. brandt PoreDermabrasion. I was disappointed because there was barely any product in it. I understand it’s just a sample but even the samples I received in Lush and Sephora have products in them. I had to squeeze the bottle to pop out some product on my hand. It was annoying. Fill up your sample bottles with more product, please!!  But it did not help my pores whatsoever. It did not unclog them. My pores stayed exactly the same. I think I need more product for a full review but for the couple times that I have used this product, it did nothing for me.

After I applied my makeup, I used the Milk Makeup Sunshine Oil. I used it on my under eyes after all of my makeup and it did help to radiant my eyes. It did help make my face glow and it made my eyes open up! It made my eyes glow and it helped to make me look alive and awakened. I have combination skin and it didn’t make me oily whatsoever. I have dry under eyes and it helped to make my eyes glow and look better! I will continue to use it.

I used the Elizabeth Mott It’s So Big Volumizing Mascara. It did not lengthen or thicken my eyelashes, but I do like how it doesn’t clump or flake. I used A LOT of the product and it didn’t make my eyelashes clumpy whatsoever. I used this on the bottom of my lashes and it did smudge, which sucked but that’s probably because I put a lot. BUT it didn’t smudge for my top lashes so that’s good! I like this mascara for the non-clumpiness but not for lengthening or thickening my lashes because it did nothing for my lashes!

Finally, I used the Living Proof No Frizz Nourishing Styling Cream. It helped to make my hair stay in place and it helped with my frizzy hair. It helped to make my hair look alive. The cream itself is soft and easy to apply. It didn’t take long to dry and it didn’t make my hair hardened or dry whatsoever. I do plan on using this because it helped my hair without hardening it, drying it or killing it. It helped to make my hair look alive, stay soft and to stop the frizziness. It do recommend this!

I think the secret box was decent so I give this a 6/10. I hated half of the product but liked the other half.

In general, for this entire month of subscription, I give it a 6/10. I was disappointed in getting the SAME products but I liked some of them. I ended my subscription for good and will resubscribe if I get a second box for free!
