How often do you think about your teeth outside of your twice-daily brushing routine? Probably not much, given that we get on with our day and eat our food and talk to people around us without much thinking, either. If you are particularly style conscious, you’ll know that those pearly whites behind your lips can be your best accessory – as long as you know how to use them to your advantage.

The key to a beautiful smile is good oral hygiene and as long as you understand that, you’re going to be on the right track to flashing white gnashers. Poor oral hygiene can not only be a painful inconvenience, it could mean you losing your teeth altogether. It’s important that you do everything that you can to keep your teeth and gums healthy. Brush Properly. Believe it or not, there are a lot of people out there that don’t actually know how to properly brush their teeth. Check out this video to give you a little help with getting your teeth brushed correctly. There is no point in brushing twice a day if it isn’t done right.

Flossing Counts. It’s a big chore, but every time you eat you get food stuck in the gaps between your teeth. These can fester and rot in your gums, leading to infection and bad breath. Flossing at least once a day can mean that your teeth and gums stay healthy.

Drop The Colourants. Tobacco, red wine and coffee are all typical examples of things that can colour your teeth and stain them badly. Dropping smoking is not only going to keep your teeth a healthy colour, you’re going to avoid oral cancers and complications with gum recession.

Dental Visit. It may not be anyone’s favourite thing to do, but visiting the dentist is an absolute must if you want your teeth to stay in your head. You may not be able to see any issues, but your dentist sure can. Ideally, you should be visiting the dentist every six months no matter what.

Look at the big picture when it comes to your oral health. You can smile for the camera and really feel confident about yourself, sure, but you can also prevent developing heart disease, diabetes and infections that can lead to other, more complicated issues. It’s up to you how you whiten your teeth, but you need to keep them healthy as a very minimum. Smile, it’ll increase your face value!
