What to Wear to a Ballet

It’s been a while since my last ballet.. 15 years. When I was a teenager, I went to my first ballet and well, I was dressed very casually.

Confused on what to wear to a ballet? Don’t get me wrong. People *do* dress casual for a ballet. I recently went to the Nutcracker and I saw people wearing jeans and a sweater. It is absolutely okay to wear jeans and a sweater.

I think if you’re looking to capture photos and make this a fun little event, then you should dress up! You don’t need to be in full formal attire but a nice blouse or dress will work.

I wore a white dress from Macy’s, original brand Ralph Lauren, and I didn’t feel out of place or too dressed up. There were others who wore dresses and skirts and took photos. I think it all depends on you. Do you want to take photos? Are you there because someone dragged you there?

Pants, jeans, sweaters, are fine. No one is going to police you but I don’t think sweatpants are the way to go. I think leggings are fine but you may get looks if you wear sweatpants. Again, this is entirely up to you. No one will stop you from wearing what you want to wear but it’d be nice to wear something nice.

I love my dress and it was super comfortable. I would totally wear something like that again to another ballet.

What would you wear to a ballet?

Thanks for reading.
