In the last few years we’ve become more and more aware of why self-care and taking self-care days is important. Taking the time to care for your body, mind and soul every day can be a foreign concept to many and seem like a hassle or something that’s not for them. But learning how to eat correctly, reduce your stress levels and making sure your body stays fit and strong can be achieved in a few simple steps that even the most reluctant person can try to make their lives immeasurably better and happier

Why Do We Often Fail at Self-Care?

We all know that taking the time to practise a self-care routine isn’t always easy. We have hectic lives, stressful jobs and busy social lives. With so much going on in the world taking time out just for yourself can seem selfish, lazy and even make us feel guilty. So getting started with self-care can be challenging. Here are some additional tips for starting a great and healthy self-care routine.

How Do You Engage in Self-Care?

Firstly take some time to think about what self-care routines may work for you, as it is not one size fit all. No matter which route you choose the main goal is to work out which self-care strategy is going to be the most beneficial for you and how you can implement them seamlessly into your life. It was also important to work out how much the practices will boost your well-being and how you will keep the practices going in the long run. Here are a few tips to get you started on your self-care journey.

Get The Right Amount of Sleep

Sleep or lack of it can have a huge effect on how you feel during the day; both emotionally and physically. We also know that not getting enough can even cause quite serious health problems. But going to bed, stressed, anxious or worried can really wreak havoc with our rest. Think about creating a nightly routine, to let your body and mind know that it’s time to shut down and time to rest. Also, start paying attention to what you are eating and drinking before bedtime.  Caffeine, sugar and alcohol are known to affect your quality of sleep so try and have them earlier in the day, if at all.

Also, concentrate on making a conscious effort to reduce stress as much as you can. Consider getting a massage or visiting a podiatrist like the ones at East Valley foot doc

to release any stressors on your body which also aids sleep.

If you have work-related stress, think about the best ways to calm yourself after a hard day or talk to your colleagues about how to more fairly distribute your workload.

Next, make sure your bedroom is the most peaceful place for you to get a really good night’s sleep. It should be free of noise, clutter and too many distractions. Be sure to grab a pair of blackout blinds or curtains to keep the sun from waking you up too early in the mornings.

 Look After Your Gut Health

The state of your gut health can have a huge impact on your well-being and feelings of vitality.  Eating certain types of food can crucially affect the quality of bacteria that lives in your stomach. Eating greasy, or junk type foods can have an ultimately negative impact on your overall health and the way your body functions. An unhappy gut can lead to gastrointestinal issues that can increase any negative health symptoms you may have.

Get Out And Exercise

We all know that exercise is really great for us. Studies have found that daily exercise helps many people both physically and mentally. It is a great way to reduce stress and anxiety and also can help with weight loss. Of course, with our busy lives, it may be hard to go to the gym daily, but try to incorporate things like tennis, jogging or even yoga to stay mentally and physically at the top of your game. Create a routine that works for you!
