Menopause is a stressful and downright painful time in every woman’s life. If it wasn’t bad enough that we have had to bleed every month for 40 years, even when it comes to a halt, we still suffer the consequences. Menopause is a phase in life which is there to signal the end of a woman’s fertility. A woman will no longer be able to produce children after this age and they therefore see a decrease in estrogen in the body.

Menopause can often make women feel stressed, tired and irritable. For the few months it occurs we can feel self conscious, in-beautiful and worthless. The reason for this is that many different hormones are being released in the body at once, sending conflicting and confusing signals in their wake.

To stay healthy and happy during the menopause, it is important to remember that this is a natural process which happens to everyone, and you don’t have to feel terrible about the way you are during this time. If you are stressed out, it’s normal: you could be moody and angry, it’s normal! As long as you work hard to reduce your pain, keep your mind active and stay social with your family and friends, you will be fine. Here are some of the ways you can keep yourself feeling healthy and happy during your menopause.

Exercise Daily

When you feel irritable, suffer from hot flushes and mood swings, the last thing you may want to do is start exercising, but it can have many different benefits for your body and mind.

Physically, exercise is a great way to keep the body active and keep the weight off you, as well as allow your heart to beat strong and your brain to release positive hormones. It can also widen your thermoregulatory zone in the brain, meaning you are less likely to suffer from hot flushes.

In your mind, exercise can do many different positive things. First of all, when positive hormones are released in the brain, your mood will life and you will in tune feel much better than you did. Exercise also distracts you from the way you feel and allows the body to focus on different processes for a while. This serves to reduce your stress levels and even reduce inflammation in the body.

Don’t Binge Drink

When you feel like rubbish it is only fair that you will want to glass of wine or two to make yourself feel better, just make sure that you don’t go overboard on the alcohol because this can be dangerous for your body and mental state too. Alcohol of course isn’t the healthiest drink in the world, but specifically during menopause it can increase your risk of hot flushes and your cancer risk. This is why you should try to stick to a couple of glasses per week. Save it for a Friday night or a Saturday when you can truly appreciate the drink.

Lose Weight Around The Belly

One of the things you will need to do if you want to stay as fit and healthy as you can during this difficult part of life is to lose some weight, especially around 5e midsection. You will want to aim for a BMI of below 25 if you are currently overweight, and this can reduce your symptoms as well as reduce your risk of a disease like cancer.

Losing weight can be incredibly difficult at the best of times, nevermind when you are in menopause, but it is a brilliant way to reduce how you feel and keep you healthy for longer. There are even some ingredients you can eat which will help manage your symptoms such as Isula Nature maca menopause. This plant root powder is a superfood which has many health benefits, but is most noted in its effects on menopausal women.  

Decrease Animal Product Consumption

One of the slightly more surprising ways to combat symptoms and risk of disease is to reduce the amount of animal products you consume. Many animal products which you buy in the supermarket contain steroids to make the meat larger, but this can trigger hot flushes in women.

Less Fatty Foods

Rescuing the amount of fat you consume will have many different benefits to your health, including reducing your overall body temperature to combat hot flushes, reducing your blood pressure and stress, and of course giving you a hell of a lot more confidence.

Keep Tabs On Vitamin D

Unless you are a redhead, you will need to check that you are getting enough vitamin D throughout the year. If you happen to have red hair you don’t need to worry because your body produces its own, however for everyone else, the sun is essential for Vitamin D.  Make sure you are taking tablets even in the winter to keep your levels up.

Blood Pressure

It is crucial as a woman to keep your blood pressure steady throughout your life, and this can become more of an issue during menopause because you will become much more stressed along with everything going on in your body. This is why it is crucial that you take the time to fruit and vegetables which lower your blood pressure, as well as meditate or perform some kind of relaxation therapy in order to stay calm.

Stress Relief

From the last point, it is incredibly important that you take the time out of your day to really try and reduce your stress levels. Stress causes many different ailments and illnesses which is why it is important to make sure you are calm as much as you can throughout the week. There are many ways which you reduce stress in your life to make things easier for yourself and the people you love. You could think about taking up yoga or meditation to quiet your mind, spend more time with your family and friends, or even just have a pamper session once a week to treat yourself. Me time is important, so make time for it.
