Your Skin Is Talking To You. Are You Paying Attention?

Your skin is incredible. It’s the biggest organ on your body, and accounts for around 15% of your overall bodyweight. From the thickest skin of your feet to the thinnest skin of your eyelids, every inch of your skin is designed to give you what you need, where you need it. Your skin makes you attractive to others and is the gateway to a world of sensations. From sliding into a bed with crisp, freshly laundered sheets to scratching a really persistent itch. Moreover, our skin is always talking to us, telling us what we need to know about its general needs as well as our overall health.

Are you paying attention to what it’s saying?

You need to drink more water

Hydration is one of the most important aspects of any health and beauty regimen. Not only does staying hydrated give you a youthful, healthy glow, it also helps to keep joints well lubricated, get key nutrients to cells all over your body and even ensure that you get a good night’s sleep.

But you can buy all the fancy moisturizing creams in the world and still have a problem with hydration. Well hydrated skin happens from the inside as well as the outside. And your skin will tell you if you need to drink more water. Skin that feels tight or your makeup starts to clump and coagulate, these are both signs that you’re dehydrated.

Pay attention to bleeding moles and skin tags

Warts, skin tags, moles and other blemishes are usually very benign, but when they start to bleed, they can be a cause of worry. Skin tags can bleed a lot because they are rife with tiny blood vessels covering the surface, which are easily ruptured. Here’s some advice to stop skin tag bleeding, but remember that they always bleed for a reason. Identifying the cause can only ever help your skin.

Moreover, when moles start to bleed it may be a sign that something is awry.

You could have a serious illness

Your skin will often tell you when you have a serious illness. For instance, moles and lesions which change size, shape or color can be signs of cancer as can moles that bleed. Furthermore, discoloration of the skin or a change in how the skin feels can also be signs of diabetes. The better you understand how your skin communicates, the better equipped you are to check yourself regularly and catch the signs of illnesses quickly.

Get to know your skin

Of course, if we’re to understand when our skin is trying to tell us something, we need to understand what its normal parameters are. This means not just mapping our moles and understanding every inch of our skin, but also getting to know its needs. For instance, many of us don’t even know for sure whether we have dry or oily skin. It’s easy enough to find out, but it can prevent us from taking missteps in our skincare regimen as well as helping ius to better spot when something is wrong.
